Course Description
How does chronic digestive stress present as chronic low back pain? How can you tell when your patients recurrent knee injuries are due to a circulatory issue? How does an acute respiratory infection lead to persistent rotator cuff tendinopathy years later?
In this seminar we are going to tackle the myriad pain patterns which present due to a internal cause. It is the instructors experience that in roughly only 25% of patients with persistent musculoskeletal pain is the pain from a cause in the musculoskeletal system. This seminar seeks to address the other 75%. We will be looking deeper into the anatomical reality of the internal channel connections, the different systemic changes that can affect them, and how this presents as common pain patterns.
Theoretical framework and case studies considerations will be delivered in an online lecture a week before the seminar (pre-recorded). In the seminar we will jump right into hands-on learning covering palpation and physical assessments, advanced needling techniques, tui na, and home care considerations.
Participants will have access to the online lecture as well as demonstration videos of techniques for 1 year following the seminar.
Demonstrations will be recorded at the live seminar and participants will have access to the videos for 1 year following the seminar.

Curriculum Summary
This course will be examining the way in which internal and systemic pathologies in the body manifest or contribute to musculoskeletal pain conditions. A number of commonly seen pain patterns will be discussed in relationship their common internal counterparts with an emphasis placed on pattern identification and treatment strategies.
The below topics will be explored and discussed through the lens of Classical Chinese Medicine:
· The relationship between myofascial holding patterns and visceral function.
· Thermodynamics of the circulatory system and joint function
· Fluid dynamics of the myofascial system.
· Oxygen availability and local tissue ischemia
· Case Studies will be discussed to provide examples and clarity.
· How to confidently and effectively diagnose and treat these cases with acupuncture and ancillary therapies.
Injuries to be covered are:
· Low back pain and lumbopelvic
· Paresthesia and other neurogenic injuries
· tendinopathies
· arthritis
The online lecture will cover the following:
· The internal channel connections and relationship with the sinew channels
· Common pathodynamics which manifest as MSK pain and where they tend to present.
· Tips and tricks to use in the intake and assessment process to identify underlying internal patterns and relate them to the pain.
The live seminar will include a quick review of the online lecture and intensive demonstration and practice of the following:
· Special palpation techniques and sinew channel analysis.
· Detailed discussion of treatment strategy and point selection.
· Special needling techniques for different underlying pathodynamics.
· Additionally, participants will learn supplementary treatments methods from tui na, gua sha, and topical trauma liniments.
